Hotel Taking Steps Towards Sustainability

For decades, Hotel Bon Sol Resort & Spa has been an embodiment of sustainable, eco-friendly practices, long before such approaches became popular. The hotel's initiatives include the installation of solar panels over 50 years ago, clever resource optimization like heating the swimming pool using heat generated by kitchen refrigerators, and preserving the local flora by creatively working around trees during construction. The hotel also nurtures around 8000m2 of garden space that contributes to a clean, oxygen-rich microclimate. Additionally, innovative water conservation techniques are employed, such as reusing filtered shower water for the toilets.

In a broader initiative to combat CO2 emissions, the General Manager and current owner, Martin Xamena, along with his son Alejandro Xamena, undertook a significant project in 2005. They acquired 250 hectares of land in Costa Rica and planted 220,000 teak trees to offset not only the hotel's CO2 emissions but also those produced by flights transporting guests to and from Mallorca. The project also includes the planting of many local tree species to bolster Costa Rica’s ecosystem. Constantly committed to recycling and water optimization, the hotel continues to find innovative ways to reduce its environmental footprint, thereby honoring the legacy of its founder, Antonio Xamena.

Very Good

Location

Hotel Bon Sol Resort & Spa boasts a perfect and lovely location that guests love. With easy access to the airport and central Palma, it's a great location for exploring the city. Guests appreciate the beautiful setting and amazing views, especially from the fantastic pool and small private beach. The hotel is situated in a lovely sunny and quiet area in Illetas with plenty of nice restaurants nearby. Families with kids will also find it a nice place to stay. The hotel has its own gorgeous garden with numerous palm trees, providing a privileged outdoor environment by the sea. Guests love the easy access to the secluded beach area and the direct access to the sea. Overall, the location is exceptional and the staff is excellent.

Breakfast

The breakfast and dinner hours were very good and guests particularly enjoyed eating at the beach restaurant. The dinner quality and choice were excellent with many delicious options available. If you're looking for a sophisticated vibe in the evening, the Hotel Bon Sol Resort & Spa won't disappoint. However, some guests found the food quality poor with fatty steaks and frozen vegetables. Additionally, some guests found the menu odd and the service not up to par in the main restaurant. Overall, while not every guest enjoyed their dinner experience, many found the food to be delicious and a good value, particularly while dining overlooking the sea. Just don't forget to pack trousers for dinner.

Guests have access to a private beach with free lounge chairs, mattresses and umbrellas. The bar staff at the pool bar were accommodating and the shared facilities outside by the pool were excellent. Overall, the Hotel Bon Sol Resort & Spa provides a great atmosphere for those looking to relax and unwind by the pool or beach. Some guests did note that some of the lounge chairs and umbrellas were old and worn and drinks at the pool bar were expensive.

Beach

The Hotel Bon Sol Resort & Spa boasts a fabulous little private beach for guests to enjoy, complete with a beachside restaurant and bar. While the beach is a bit small and has some pebbles, the sea is amazing and the access to the beach is easy, thanks to an underground walkway. There are also other beautiful beaches in Illettas for guests to explore. The beach area of the hotel is arranged over many floors down a hillside, overlooking the sea and even has its own secluded cove for swimming. Overall, guests rave about the lovely beach area and private access, despite some negative comments about the quality and state of the beach furniture.

Family

Hotel Bon Sol Resort & Spa is a lovely family-owned hotel that's perfect for families with kids. The staff were extremely pleasant and helpful, making us feel welcome at all times. Although there are many steps, the hotel is well set up for children with mini-golf, tennis and a playroom that our little one enjoyed. Our first family holiday was wonderful and we'd happily go back with our partner and daughter. The hotel has a dreamy, peaceful atmosphere, although the location between family rooms could be improved. Overall, it's a nice place for families with kids and the activities for kids are excellent. However, some guests mentioned issues with the kid's club and some complained about guests fainting by the pool with little reaction from staff.

Guests will appreciate the hotel's old-fashioned charm, while enjoying all of the mod cons where you need them. From fabulous rooms with large balconies to sunbeds, lounge areas, twin beds, full bathrooms and separate WC, all beautifully decorated. Although the hotel is 70 years old, it still maintains its mondänen Charme. However, it is worth mentioning that the hotel is in need of a very big refurbishment and modernization. Despite this, guests overall felt that the hotel was superbe and bel hôtel luxueux.
