Originally named Gulab Bhavan. It was built with Sh. Janki Nath Madan's supervision, a royal engineer in the Court of Maharaja Pratap Singh, the last Marajaha ruler of Jammu and Kashmir in India. After the Indian independence, the palace was renamed to "The Grand Palace" in 1956 and then finally, "LaLit Grand Palace Srinagar" in 2008.
