Historic Resort
Year erected: 1658
What is the history of the property?
Since the year 1685 the Heiskanen family has provided travelers visiting Porosalmi in the northern part of beautiful Lake Saimaa with exceptional hospitality and services. In the beginning, a strong incentive for establishing the resort was an agreement between the Czar of Russia and the King of Sweden to build and maintain a road (an ice road during winter) through Finland. At the time, it was stipulated that a location for feeding horses and to accommodate travelers would need to be established at 30 km intervals along the way. Porosalmi just happened to be located in one of these places.

Tapio and Eila Heiskanen had four sons who all grew up in Porosalmi and one of the sons, Jari Heiskanen, formed Järvisydän with his wife Raija. Jari and Raija had two children, one of them son Markus Heiskanen who at the beginning of 21st century started to host Järvisydän. He is now keeping a guest house in 11th generation.

Markus as young and eager host has built some more villas, hotel, Finnish Sauna World, tepee restaurant, Restaurant Piikatyttö and Wine Cellar, new Lotjabaari - boat bar, a reception area, the Lake Spa and who knows what other plans there are in the head of Markus...

But despite all enlargements, closest to the heart of the host Markus and the whole Järvisydän household is still the beautiful nature of Porosalmi – in the first place because of it people come to Porosalmi and that’s why the household of Järvisydän still wants to take their guests to the nature to hear stories about its secrets and living in the old times in Porosalmi.

The Kotaillallinen experience and the Tulimenu-illallinen dinner are specifically mentioned as highlights. However, others express disappointment with the quality of the food, including issues with buffet options, small portion sizes and a limited menu. Some guests also criticize the service with slow or inattentive waitstaff. Additionally, some guests note issues with reservations and timing, feeling rushed and not given enough time to enjoy their meals. A few guests also mention that the restaurant is not very child-friendly and some report issues with the quality and presentation of the food. Overall, while there are some rave reviews, guests should be aware of potential issues with service, timing and menu options.

Rooms
The Hotel & Spa Resort Järvisydän offers a wide range of accommodations, from charming chalets to stylish and comfortable suites with unique features such as glass roofs and outdoor hot tubs. While some rooms were considered small and poorly located, others were praised for their beautiful views and cozy atmosphere. Guests appreciated the cleanliness and aesthetics of the rooms, although some noted minor maintenance issues. The hotel is also praised for its beautiful surroundings, including a nearby forest and lake. However, some guests found the service to be lacking with unhelpful receptionists and sometimes a lack of storage space. Nevertheless, the hotel is a perfect destination for a relaxing and peaceful stay in nature where you can cozy up in your warm bed and enjoy the mesmerizing view outside.

Beds
Guests have varying opinions on the beds at Hotel & Spa Resort Järvisydän with some finding them comfortable and others complaining about discomfort. Some guests found the beds to be large and comfortable, ensuring a good night's sleep. However, others found the mattresses to be uncomfortable and complained of backaches or difficulty sleeping. While some guests wished for more amenities in their rooms, such as better heating, others enjoyed the unique features of the rooms, such as the skylight in the family suite. All in all, while opinions on the beds varied, the comfortable ones were praised for ensuring a restful night's sleep.

Cleanliness

While some rooms experienced issues such as flies and unpleasant odors, the majority of guests appreciated the hotels' cleanliness standards. The hotel received criticism for delayed breakfasts and unpleasant restaurant experiences, but overall, guests generally found the accommodations clean and comfortable. Additionally, the resort has a stunning and picturesque location with plenty of appealing amenities.

Staff
Hotel & Spa Resort Järvisydän has an overall friendly and accommodating staff with some exceptions noted. Guests appreciated the welcoming and supportive staff who went out of their way, even organizing a small birthday gift. However, some reviews mention difficulties in contacting the staff before arrival and some staff were described as distant, rude and unprofessional. The spa is particularly recommended for couples and the staff was noted as attentive and kind. Even though it might be a bit far from Tampere, this charming and inviting spa is definitely worth visiting.

Parking
Guests at Hotel & Spa Resort Järvisydän had mixed reviews regarding the parking situation. While some found the parking to be sufficient and convenient, others had issues with electric charging stations being occupied by non-electric cars. However, this was attributed to the other guests rather than the hotel's fault. Some suggested a reservation system for the charging stations. On a positive note, the hotel had festive decorations during the winter season and guests appreciated the ample parking spaces available in the area. Overall, guests who drove to the hotel didn't seem to have many issues with finding a good parking spot.

Family
The Hotel & Spa Resort Järvisydän may not be the best option for families with young children, as the activities for kids are limited. However, those that are available are diverse and plentiful. The modern cabins are quiet and comfortable but basic children's food options are lacking. The spa is accessible for families with children, but limitations for K18 evenings may cause scheduling conflicts. The price of the resort is steep compared to other times of the year and the presence of many children during school holidays may cause overcrowding. Despite some limitations, Järvisydän is recommended for all ages, although some guests suggest an age limit to be imposed in certain areas. Unfortunately, children are not given much attention in the restaurant and the quantity of children on the property may detract from a peaceful ambiance.

Rooms with Jacuzzi / Hot-Tub
Hotel & Spa Resort Järvisydän boasts an impressive selection of spa amenities, including several jacuzzis and hot tubs in their rooms. Guests raved about the luxurious experience of soaking in their own private hot tub while enjoying the stunning scenery outside. However, a few guests noted that the water temperature of the outdoor tubs was too cool. The spa facilities received generally positive feedback, though one guest mentioned that the hot water ran out in several showers in the women's area. Overall, guests found the spa to be a highlight of their stay with several noting that these amenities were the cherry on top of an already fantastic experience at the hotel.
