The hotel's history began in 1815. Queen Victoria's uncle, William IV, met his wife in the hotel in 1818. In 1814, Louis XVIII of France stayed here on his way to Paris. In 1898, an iron and glass shelter was raised on the front entrance. It served as a refuge for the exiled in the Nazi's march across Europe.
