New category: Hotels where Extra Health & Safety Measures Have Been Taken

The lockdowns have started easing in more and more countries and travelling is slowly becoming a possibility again. Some of us are starting to think that the relaxing holidays we deserve this summer might actually become reality. Since health and safety are now constantly on our minds, knowing the specific measures the hotel we're going to choose has taken would take a big load off our minds.

This is why we created a new category on our website called "Health & Safety". As you know, we like to delve deep into things, so we carefully studied the practices and protocols hotels all over the world are implementing and we created a set of specific questions for the hotels. From the possibility for contactless check-in/check-out to whether carpets have been removed from the guest rooms, we have asked about all the details our most demanding visitors would like to know.

Safir Sharm Waterfalls Resort


Located in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, the 5-star Hilton Sharm Waterfalls Resort doesn't only offer luxurious accommodation and top notch amenities, but also health and safety measures that follow the Hilton CleanStay initiative. According to those measures, the hotel will only offer 50% of its rooms for guests to stay, elevator rides will be limited to 5 people instead of the usual 12, while contactless check-in/check-out is also ensured. The hotel is expected to reopen on July 1st.

Ghost Mountain Inn


Ghost Mountain Inn in Mkuze, South Africa requires no health certificate or test for guests to stay, but they have to fill a form upon their arrival regarding their health situation. The inn staff takes special care to sanitize the rooms and common areas many times a day, while the guest rooms are left vacant for 48 hours after the last guest checks out. The check-in and check-out times have also become more flexible to accommodate guests. Some facilities such as the spa, the restaurant and the curio shop are temporarily unavailable.

Mercure Strasbourg Centre Petite France


Having reopened since June 1st, the 3-star Mercure Strasbourg Centre Petite France in Strasbourg, France is also implementing specific measures to ensure the healthy and safety of its guests. Following Accor's ALLSAFE plan, the hotel has added plexiglass in the reception area to avoid unnecessary contact with guests. The hotel's rooms, guest cards/keys and common areas are cleaned thoroughly and sanitized regularly, while hand sanitizing stations have been installed throughout the hotel for guests to use.

Kaomai Lanna Resort


Located in San Pa Tong, Thailand, Kaomai Lanna Resort is implementing measures according to the Amazing Thailand Safety and Health Administration: SHA. Thorough cleaning and sanitization are ensured throughout the resort, while guests are constantly reminded to practice social distancing through the signage in common areas. Hand sanitizing stations are also available throughout the hotel, and unnecessary items and carpets have been removed from the rooms.

MERCURE HOTEL KLAIPEDA CITY, Conference, Restaurant & Bar - Accor Group


At the 4-star Radisson Blu Hotel, Klaipeda in Lithuania, plexiglass has been installed in the reception to make sure that guests can check-in and check-out in as contactless a way as possible. The hotel's staff have been provided with appropriate protective equipment and sanitization of the hotel areas and luggage trolleys takes place several times a day. The elevator rides have been limited to 2 guests or 1 family per car, while a la carte breakfast is now offered instead of a buffet. The number of people allowed in the conference room has also been reduced, while social distancing protocols are always maintained. The hotel has reopened since June 1st.

Centara Watergate Pavillion Hotel Bangkok


Following the Amazing Thailand Safety and Health Administration: SHA as well as their own Centara Complete Care Programme, Centara Watergate Pavillion Hotel Bangkok in Thailand is another hotel that is taking care to ensure its guests' safety and well-being. The staff performs thorough sanitization and disinfection to all rooms, keys/cards and common spaces, while there is an option for no in-room housekeeping during a guest's stay. The hotel has also introduced new and more flexible check-in/check-out times, while limitations such as elevator rides with up to 5 people and only 80% of the hotel rooms being available for guests are also taking place.

Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham Abuja


Guests staying at Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham Abuja in Nigeria are not required to bring a health certificate or do a test, but the hotel does perform temperature checks to guests and staff alike. According to the rules and regulations of Wyndham, guests are reminded to abide by the social distancing rules through signage and physical distance markers, while rooms are left vacant for 48 hours before new guests can check in. Apart from thorough cleaning and sanitization, the hotel also provides medical kits for both the staff and guests.

Hotel Mak


Hotel Mak in Gabrovo, Bulgaria has reopened since March 13th. Only up to 30% of the hotel's rooms can be occupied, while all rooms are left vacant for at least 72 hours before the new guests can check in. All common areas and guest keys/cards are thoroughly sanitized and plexiglass has been added to the reception to ensure contactless check-in and check-out.

Oakwood Hotel and Residence Kuala Lumpur


In a similar vein, Oakwood Hotel and Residence in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, encourages all guests and staff to follow the social distancing rules and provides thorough sanitization of all areas and protective equipment for the staff. At the moment, the hotel is only open for domestic bookings, while some of its facilities such as the pool, the conference room and the gym are currently unavailable.

SEAnery Beach Resort


Located in Bang Saphan, Thailand, SEAnery Beach Resort is following the Amazing Thailand Safety and Health Administration: SHA regulations, while also implementing its own rules and health protocols. Contactless check-in and check-out can be made through a QR code and all the shared facilities of the hotel are cleaned every 2 hours. The carpets and unnecessary items in each room are removed, while the rooms are cleaned and sanitized thoroughly with fresh air being let inside them as well.

Craftsman Bangkok


Last but not least, the 4-star Craftsman Bangkok in Thailand has put up signage that remind guests of the social distancing rules and all its rooms and common areas are aired and sanitized regularly. All guests will be required to have a health certificate or a test with them, while a touchscreen interface is available for contactless check-in/check-out. The outdoor pool, restaurant, coffee shop and gym are some of the hotel's facilities that will remain unavailable during this period.
