Summary of reviews

Hotel Carillon in Haarlem presents a prime location, conveniently situated at the Grote Markt, making it a favored choice for travelers keen on exploring Haarlem and neighboring Amsterdam. This central position offers easy access to restaurants, bakeries, supermarkets and key attractions with many guests appreciating the picturesque old town backdrop. While the vibrant setting contributes to occasional noise disturbances, the convenience of the location often outweighs these minor inconveniences. Despite the hotel’s facilities being described as modest and somewhat outdated, the good value for money, friendly staff and comfortable beds make Hotel Carillon an attractive option for city explorers.
The breakfast service at Hotel Carillon receives mixed feedback with many guests expressing disappointment over non-availability despite being promised in their bookings. Instances of staff shortages and closed breakfast rooms aggravate this issue. However, some did enjoy simple and satisfactory breakfasts featuring items like croissants, cheese and eggs, although such positive mentions are rare.
Dinner experiences are more positively reviewed, particularly the hotel's bar and restaurant, which are described as fantastic with excellent meals and a pleasant outside terrace. The friendly staff and overall ambiance also contribute to a relaxed and enjoyable dining atmosphere.
Rooms at Hotel Carillon reflect its budget-friendly nature. While they come equipped with clean towels, a TV and a washstand, the small, outdated and sometimes poorly cleaned conditions have been highlighted. Despite reports of cramped bathroom spaces and occasional issues with cleanliness, the decently comfortable beds and narrow, steep stairs add both to the charm and challenges of staying at this historic location.
The cleanliness of the hotel faces significant criticism. Guests frequently mention dirty rooms and common areas with issues like mold, stains and leftover trash being noted. Although some reviewers did find their rooms clean with fresh sheets, such positive remarks are rare and eclipsed by the prevalent concerns about hygiene.
Staff at Hotel Carillon receive predominantly positive reviews for their friendliness and helpfulness. The restaurant and bar teams, in particular, are praised for their attentive service. However, there are instances of unavailability and unresponsiveness with some guests reporting difficulties in reaching the reception or obtaining necessary information.
Wi-Fi connectivity at Hotel Carillon draws mixed reviews. While some guests commend the excellent and reliable service, others face issues with patchy or non-existent access, particularly in rooms. The lack of information on how to connect to the Wi-Fi further frustrates some guests.
Hotel Carillon’s location also offers an exciting nightlife scene, surrounded by vibrant pubs, clubs and restaurants. This makes it ideal for guests wishing to immerse themselves in Haarlem’s lively atmosphere, although the noise levels can be problematic for those seeking a quiet stay, particularly on weekends.
Finally, while many guests find the beds comfortable and well-made, the small size and occasional issues with outdated or dirty mattresses impact the overall bedding experience. Adjusting the bed quality could significantly enhance guest satisfaction.
In summary, Hotel Carillon stands out for its excellent central location and friendly staff, offering good value for those prioritizing location and affordability over luxury. However, improvements in cleanliness, breakfast reliability and room conditions could enhance overall guest experiences.
