The Parador de Baiona is a historic hotel set on the Monterreal Peninsula in Galicia, overlooking the Bay of Baiona. It stands on the site of the former fortified town of Baiona, founded in 1497 by the Catholic Monarchs. Thanks to its strategic coastal location, the site played a key role in the conflicts between Spain and England, including an attack by Francis Drake in 1585.
In the 19th century, the Marquis of the Pazo de la Merced acquired the ruins and built a Neo-Gothic palace, which was later declared a National Monument in 1950. Between 1963 and 1966, the palace was restored and converted into the Parador, preserving the original medieval walls and adding traditional Galician features.
