Summary of reviews
Summarized by AI
Lago Maggiore garners positive reviews for its almost unbeatable location along the serene shores of Lake Maggiore, providing magnificent lake and harbor views. The hotel's proximity to various attractions, such as the Borromean Islands and the town of Stresa, along with convenient amenities like free private parking and access to public transport, makes it an ideal base for visitors. Reviewers consistently praise the tranquil setting in the quaint village of Lesa, where local restaurants, bars and historical sites are within walking distance.
Guests generally find the breakfast to be satisfying, highlighting its heartiness, variety and generous portions. Fresh cold cuts, good bread, cheese and a wide range of cereals, croissants and pastries are well-received, though some guests wish for more fresh fruit and fewer pre-packaged items. Overall, despite a few minor critiques, the breakfast is considered good value for money.
The hotel's on-site restaurant is acclaimed for delivering a remarkable dining experience with high-quality dishes like seafood pasta and homemade pasta with fresh porcini mushrooms. The lakeside dining options on the terrace or promenade add to the ambiance, despite slightly higher prices, which are justified by the taste and presentation of the meals. The friendly and attentive service further enhances the dining experience, making it a highlight for many guests.
Rooms at Lago Maggiore receive mixed reviews. While they are praised for cleanliness and beautiful lake views, their decor and furnishings are described as dated and retro. Room sizes vary significantly with some featuring spacious terraces and stunning views, while others are smaller and less well-arranged. The lack of air conditioning and some small bathroom sizes are noted drawbacks, but the overall cleanliness and functionality make the rooms a satisfactory choice for budget-conscious travelers.
Cleanliness is a strong point for the hotel with guests frequently commending the high standards of cleanliness maintained in the rooms, bathrooms and common areas. Despite showing signs of age, the clean linens, towels and overall upkeep contribute to a pleasant stay.
The staff at Lago Maggiore stands out for their exceptional friendliness, attentiveness and hospitality. Guests appreciate the warm, welcoming atmosphere and the team's ability to communicate in multiple languages, which enhances the overall experience. The professionalism and personalized service provided by the staff leave a lasting positive impression on visitors.
On the downside, the WiFi service at the hotel is a consistent issue with many guests reporting weak or unreliable connections, particularly in the rooms. This may be a significant drawback for those needing consistent internet access.
Parking is generally appreciated with free private and reserved options available, although spaces can be limited, especially during peak times. Guests might need to use nearby public parking if the hotel's spots are full, which could be a minor inconvenience.
Lastly, while some guests find the beds comfortable and conducive to a good night's sleep, many reviews mention the age and condition of the mattresses as problematic. Issues with narrow, creaky or noisy beds and the discomfort of very soft single bed mattresses indicate a clear need for updates and improvements in this area.
Overall, Lago Maggiore offers an excellent location, friendly staff and a pleasant dining experience, making it a worthwhile choice for visitors with minor areas for improvement such as WiFi reliability and bedding conditions.
