Hotel Matal enjoys consistent praise for its exceptional location, closely positioned to key landmarks such as the Church of St. James and the city center. Guests appreciate easy access to shopping streets, restaurants and the town square, while still benefiting from the peace of a quiet street. With public transportation just a stone's throw away, visitors find it convenient to explore the city and its local culture.
The hotel’s breakfast experience is generally well-received with guests frequently describing it as tasty, hearty and varied. The staff attending breakfast are noted for their attentiveness, enhancing the overall dining experience. Although there are a few criticisms pointing to occasional shortcomings such as repetitive offerings and the lack of certain condiments, the consensus indicates a satisfying start to the day for most guests.
Rooms at Hotel Matal evoke old-world elegance with baroque-style furnishings. They are equipped with air conditioning and some even offer balconies with pleasant views. Despite being quiet and organized, the rooms are often described as small and sometimes overcrowded, which can be a challenge for larger groups. Cleanliness appears inconsistent with some guests encountering tidy rooms while others report unclean conditions. The bathrooms also vary in comfort and size.
The hotel staff are prominently praised for their remarkable hospitality. Guests frequently mention the kindness and friendliness of the team with the owner, Diana, receiving special accolades for her exceptional and accommodating nature. The atmosphere is notably familial and convivial with staff consistently ensuring that guests feel at home and well-attended.
While the beds receive a mixed response with some guests finding them comfortable and clean, others have encountered issues like hard mattresses and torn bedding. The overall sentiment on the beds indicates room for improvement.
In summary, Hotel Matal excels in location and staff hospitality, providing a warm and convenient base for exploring. Although the rooms and cleanliness levels show variability, the overall experience is positive for many guests.
