The Originals City, Hôtel Cathédrale in Lisieux offers a generally positive experience for its guests, especially in terms of its exceptional central location. Positioned in the heart of Lisieux, it provides convenient access to the cathedral, shops, restaurants and essential services, all within walking distance. Despite its central location, the hotel maintains a calm and serene atmosphere, making it an ideal base for exploring the city without the need for a car.
Guests appreciate the spacious and comfortable rooms, which are often well-lit and clean. Many rooms have been recently renovated with modern decor, although some materials used appear to be of lower quality and there are recurring maintenance issues such as broken showers and heating problems. Despite occasional cleanliness issues like dust and spider webs, the rooms and bathrooms are generally clean and well-maintained. The beds receive mixed reviews with many guests finding them comfortable, though there are some complaints about mattress firmness and cleanliness.
Breakfast at the hotel is described as hearty and diverse, featuring items like croissants, charcuterie and fresh orange juice. While the breakfast receives positive comments, some guests feel it is a bit expensive for what is offered and there are occasional complaints about the freshness and variety of certain items.
The staff at the hotel are often praised for their helpfulness and friendliness with specific mentions of individuals like Kalpesh and Neeral. However, there are inconsistencies in service quality with some guests noting that the reception is frequently unoccupied and that staff availability is limited.
The free WiFi is generally well-received for its speed and accessibility, though some guests experience technical issues, particularly with Apple products. For families, the hotel offers good value with spacious and clean rooms, contributing to an enjoyable family-oriented atmosphere despite noise issues from neighboring rooms.
Overall, The Originals City, Hôtel Cathédrale provides good-sized, comfortable rooms in a prime location, making it a popular choice for those wishing to experience the best of Lisieux. Although there are areas for improvement in maintenance, cleanliness and service consistency, the hotel offers a pleasant stay, particularly for families.
