The Ashok, New Delhi, boasts an enviable location amidst embassies and enjoys the reputation of being India's largest hotel. However, the consensus among guests is that its five-star rating does not align with the current state of the property and its services. The building, though historically significant, appears to have aged poorly, with numerous reviews highlighting dilapidation—leaking taps, cracked tiles, outdated styling, and furnishings that desperately call for a revamp. Many guests express disappointment, citing experiences that do not match their expectations for a five-star establishment.
Service quality appears inconsistent, with some guests appreciating the tasty food and good service, while others describe interactions with the staff as unfriendly or casual. Cleanliness also emerges as a recurring concern, with linens and rooms often described as not up to standard. The breakfast experience is notably criticized for its taste and crowded environment.
Several reviews point out that the hotel maintains a rather run-down appearance, making it feel more aligned with a three-star rating. Despite some praise for its buffet offerings and convenient location, these positives are overshadowed by the need for substantial refurbishment to restore its former grandeur.
Overall, while The Ashok holds the potential of a five-star property, many reviews suggest that both its facilities and services need significant improvement to live up to this classification.
