What is the history of the property?Seit vielen hunderten Jahren hat dieser gewaltige Steinbau gemeinsam mit der Kirche das Ortsbild geprägt. Hinweise auf einen befestigten Edelsitz finden wir bereits im 9. Jh., denn sowohl in der Urkunde 822-842 des Klosters Fulda als auch 1073 in einer des Kaisers Heinrich IV. auf der Eckartsburg ist von einem Edling in „awartestete“ die Rede. Ebenso geht aus ihr der Besitzstand als Reichsgut hervor. In der um 1000 n. Chr. aufblühenden Ritterzeit mag dieser schlichte Sedelhof zu einem vornehmen Herrensitz ausgebaut worden sein. Die weitere Entwicklung zum Freigut, freies Ritterlehngut, zum Rittergut zeigt auch die Wandlung der Besitzverhältnisse damaliger Zeit auf. Vom Schloss spricht man ab Anfang des 19. Jahrhunderts. Besonders in den Urkunden des Klosters Pforta ab 1137 können wir alle Besitzer des Gutes nachweisen.
Has restoration work taken place?Das Schloss hat allen Stürmen der Zeit getrotzt. Im 30-jährigen Krieg gebrandschatzt, 1806 geplündert, 1840 einem Großbrand anheim gefallen und 1945 einer Sprengung nur knapp entgangen, tritt es uns jetzt als schmucker Mittelpunkt des Dorfes entgegen. Heute ist das gesamte Areal grundlegend saniert und beherbergt ein Restaurant mit Seminarräumen,
