Conveniently situated close to a shopping complex, fuel stations and all the amenities, the hotel also offers top-notch accommodation. Overlooking the Sabie River, the hotel is only 15 minutes away from the Phabeni gate into Kruger National Park. Guests enjoy the possibility of seeing some hippos and elephants crossing nearby. The property is amazing with views that are simply breathtaking. Guests love the location so much, they keep getting that bush relaxing feeling. It's the perfect place to unwind and enjoy nature’s beauty.

Breakfast
Hippo Hollow Country Estate offers breakfast at a restaurant with a view of the Sabie river, which many guests found refreshing. The food served was generally good with some describing it as scrumptious or delicious. However, some guests found the breakfast options limited and basic with a few even describing dry sandwiches. For those who do not eat pork or beef, options were also fewer. Despite this, there were guests who enjoyed the continental breakfast presentation and had an amazing selection to choose from. The breakfast eggs station had some bottleneck issues with only one person making eggs in the morning. The hotel may want to add pastries and muffins to the buffet breakfast for more variety. Some guests also had negative experiences with one stating that the breakfast pack was a disaster. However, for the most part, guests enjoyed the great breakfast and recommended that the hotel ask for guests' breakfast preferences.

Dinner
Hippo Hollow Country Estate's restaurant has seen a mix of positive and negative reviews from its guests. While some guests praised the well-prepared and delicious meals, others found the food mediocre and disappointing. Unfortunately, some items on the menu were not available and the dinner service was slow due to not enough staff. The limited menu was also a common complaint among guests, but some were able to enjoy the delicious Kudu Steak or fillet steak. The restaurant setting was lovely, but some guests opted to dine elsewhere due to high prices and the lack of alcohol allowed on the premises. Although there were some exceptional staff members like Grace, service overall was criticized. However, Patricia, who planned some guests' trips to the park, was deemed awesome. Despite some downsides, the restaurant is decent overall and even served a lovely meal during Loadshedding.

Rooms
Hippo Hollow Country Estate offers a range of comfortable rooms, some of which have beautiful river views and access to clean pools. The well-sized rooms come with en-suite bathrooms, double showers and some even have a small balcony area. However, some guests felt that the cleanliness of the rooms could be improved and were disappointed with the outdated facilities such as old televisions, no microwaves, braai areas or kitchen sinks. Some guests also complained about issues with the air conditioning, non-functional toilet fans and hair dryers, terrible beds and bedding and mould in the shower. On the other hand, some guests praised the spacious and beautiful chalets with stunning river views and the tranquillity of the place. Despite some concerns with the facilities, many guests still enjoyed their stay and found their rooms comfortable and clean. The resort's location and self-catering units also received positive feedback, although some guests felt that the resort was in need of updates to its decor and facilities.

Beds
Guests at Hippo Hollow Country Estate had mixed experiences with the hotel's beds. Some were delighted with the huge, comfortable beds, while others were disappointed to find twin beds instead of doubles. A few guests even reported finding hair on the sheets. The quality of the bedding varied as well with some finding only a blanket provided and others wishing for additional pillows and duvet covers. The mattresses were generally reported to be in good condition, but the overall comfort of the beds left something to be desired. On the plus side, several guests raved about the double showers, but the old TVs left something to be desired. However, some guests did struggle with the temperature, finding it too hot to sleep. Overall, guests describe the beds and bedding at Hippo Hollow Country Estate as hit or miss with some rooms offering a wonderful night's sleep and others falling short of expectations.

Cleanliness
Hippo Hollow Country Estate is a beautiful resort with well-maintained exteriors and common areas and many guests found the place very clean. However, some guests had a disappointing experience in terms of room cleanliness. They reported that the bedding and linen were not changed regularly, there was a bad stench and dirty shower heads and some rooms were too shoddy and smelly. Some guests also found bat droppings on the bed upon arrival. The restaurant restrooms were reported to be very dirty, but the standard rooms are discreatly clean. Despite some ups and downs, most guests found the resort to be a pleasant place to stay - especially for the spacious and comfortable rooms that are cleaned daily.

Staff
The staff at Hippo Hollow Country Estate are a highlight of guests' experiences with many praising their friendly and accommodating approach. From reception to waitstaff and security, the personnel are welcoming and always smiling, eager to serve and make guests feel at home. Guests especially rave about Priscilla, Grace and Martha for their warmth and helpfulness. While there are occasional complaints about rude staff or unprofessional behavior, overall guests feel that the service is wonderful and the staff are top-notch. Whether you need help with a breathing machine or a special birthday celebration, the staff at Hippo Hollow Country Estate are there to make your stay perfect.

Wi-Fi
When it comes to connectivity, Hippo Hollow Country Estate might not be the best option for avid internet users. Reviews mention a shocking Wi-Fi signal, poor connectivity in bedrooms and public areas, as well as a lack of network overall. Some guests even reported not being offered Wi-Fi during their stay. While the Wi-Fi is present in certain areas, the signal is limited and some guests were disappointed to find out that they could only use the internet in the swimming pool areas. Some chalets do not offer TVs or Wi-Fi at all, while others report unstable or weak connection. If internet access is essential during your stay, it might be worth considering a different option or reaching out to the hotel beforehand to ensure your unit is Wi-Fi friendly.

Pool
The Hippo Hollow Country Estate impresses its guests with its clean and well-maintained pools. Guests love relaxing by the central pool and hammock area, taking in the pool view and enjoying the poolside amenities. The surrounding pool area is beautifully designed with comfortable seating arrangements and a serene atmosphere. The outdoor pool is a popular spot for a dip and visitors appreciate the great showers nearby. Though there are no additional facilities on the property, guests are content to spend their days lounging by the pool and enjoying the peaceful surroundings. Overall, the Hippo Hollow Country Estate's pool area is a highlight of any stay at this charming resort.

Accessible
According to guest reviews, it appears that Hippo Hollow Country Estate may not be the best choice for guests with disabilities. There were no mentions of accessibility accommodations. Guests also noted that there was no facility to reheat food and cooler boxes were not permitted. Additionally, during load shedding (scheduled power outages), the generator only provides power for the general lights outside, reception and restaurant, leaving guests without electricity in their rooms for up to two hours without notice. The poor contingency planning during load shedding is also highlighted and guests suggest implementing a Plan B for international guests who may not be familiar with the practice. Finally, some guests commented on the cleanliness of their chalets and the outdated televisions in the rooms, recommending that they be replaced with flat-screen models.
