The Shelburne Sonesta New York, while an older hotel imbued with character and an elegant ambiance, offers a mixed experience for its guests. Many appreciated its excellent location and the spaciousness of its rooms, though some found parts of the decor to be slightly dated. Positively noted were the exceptionally clean standards maintained by the hotel and the knowledgeable, helpful staff who contributed to a generally favorable impression of service.
However, there were recurring comments suggesting a disparity between its four-star rating and the actual experience with some guests feeling that the services and amenities fell short of this standard. Despite some guests describing the treatment as luxurious and the overall decor as elegant, others felt that the property was dated. A common sentiment was that the hotel only provided good value for money if booked at a lower price point compared to other New York City hotels of a similar level. While some reviews vouch for the hotel meeting four-star standards, others felt it did not quite live up to the high-star rating it purportedly offers.
