Hakone Suimeisou presents an interesting mix of experiences that may not fully align with the expectations for its price point. While the establishment is considered to offer reasonable value, guests have noted that it leans on the more expensive side, and the facilities appear dated in areas such as room decor and wallpaper. Nevertheless, the hotel offers the quintessential benefits of a three-star stay with on-site Onsen facilities, making it ideal for relaxation and rest.
The culinary offerings, while abundant and fair in price, have received mixed feedback regarding their taste and presentation. Some guests found the food good, but not particularly exceptional, with a sentiment that it was prepared in advance. Lack of explanations about the dishes also left some diners wanting more engagement during meals.
Service-wise, the arrangements for meals and bedding have been described as somewhat careless, which might affect the overall experience for some visitors. While Hakone Suimeisou delivers a solid stay, certain areas related to decor and culinary excellence may benefit from improvements to better match its cost and elevate guest satisfaction.

Hakone Onsen Ryokan Yaeikan provides an experience that evokes the historical charm of traditional Japan, offering a glimpse into a bygone era. The ryokan is described as clean and highly recommended by many guests with some noting that their stay surpassed expectations and they found it to be fair value for a three-star experience.
Despite these positive aspects, the facility itself appears quite aged and could benefit from several improvements and modernization. Guests mention visible dust, old and dated furniture and the occasional presence of mold and silverfish, which suggest that some areas of the ryokan need attention.
The meals, though attractively presented, were reported to be somewhat disappointing with not much taste and priced higher than expected for the quality received. The hot water in the open-air bath was sometimes lukewarm and some bath tiles in disrepair caused concern.
On the service side, communication may be challenging as staff cannot speak any English and there were instances of poor manners reported. Guests also noted inconvenience due to the absence of an elevator, making it difficult to move up and down stairs especially to rooms on higher floors.
In summary, while Hakone Onsen Ryokan Yaeikan offers a unique and nostalgic experience, the overall consensus indicates the necessity for modernization and improvement in several areas including facilities, meal quality and customer service, to better match its pricing and historical charm.

Senkei offers a mixed experience for travelers seeking a tranquil getaway. While the facilities are somewhat worn and the property has an old-fashioned charm, cleanliness and functionality are consistent strengths across the board. Guests appreciate the pristine state of the interior, highlighting that any wear does not detract from the overall upkeep of the property. Dining experiences are varied, with breakfast receiving critiques for its need for improvement. Dinner varies dramatically, ranging from luxurious and delicious meals that guests are reluctant to finish to disappointing preparations that resemble leftovers.
The location of Senkei is another point of balance; it's quite remote, providing a peaceful retreat, yet the morning shuttle service ensures guests can make their way to active areas with relative ease. Some guests note the late check-in time of 3 pm as inconvenient, although it is not a significant hindrance to their overall stay. Despite being priced higher than some guests would have preferred, the experience at Senkei is deemed worthwhile. Therefore, for those seeking a clean and peaceful escape with diverse dining options, Senkei could still be a valuable choice.
