The hotel is strategically situated near popular entertainment venues such as the Hard Rock Cafe, a nearby casino, an amphitheater and the fairgrounds, which are perfect for concert and event-goers. Guests appreciate the convenience of nearby stores and services including a 24-hour Wawa, McDonald's, Walmart and a Waffle House next door. The proximity to attractions like Bush Gardens and Ybor City makes it an advantageous spot for exploring Tampa. Additionally, despite being close to highways, the area maintains a quiet atmosphere, providing a peaceful retreat.
However, reviews indicate significant concerns about the rooms' conditions with guests reporting issues such as bed bugs, roaches and mold, contributing to a broadly unhygienic and uncomfortable experience. Cleanliness is a major issue with reports of dirty bathtubs, stained furniture and uncleaned floors and linens, compounded by unpleasant odors. Maintenance problems include broken toilets, doors with holes, rust and non-functional lighting and showers.
Cleanliness and maintenance issues extend beyond the rooms with recurring mentions of unsanitary conditions throughout the property. Guests often found insects, trash and broken fixtures, leading to a poorly maintained environment. Some guests reported unsafe conditions due to visible drug activity and other security concerns.
The staff received mixed reviews. Some guests praised the efficient check-in process and found the service responsive and the night staff courteous. Positive interactions were noted with particular staff members, including a friendly front desk lady and George. Nevertheless, numerous reviews pointed out rude and unhelpful behavior, language barriers and a lack of responsiveness and professionalism.
The hotel's WiFi service received consistently negative feedback with reports of slow or non-functional connections that forced guests to rely on mobile hotspots. Other electronic amenities like phones and TV controllers also faced similar issues.
While some guests found the beds comfortable and conducive to a good night's sleep, there were notable complaints regarding cleanliness and maintenance. Issues such as stained sheets, uncomfortable mattresses and pillows and bedbugs detracted from the overall sleeping experience.
In summary, while the favorable location stands out as a significant advantage for the Rodeway Inn Fairgrounds-Casino, numerous concerns about room cleanliness, maintenance and staff service negatively impact the overall guest experience.
