Located in Mondsee, this castle hotel provides a historic setting with modern comforts. It offers unique rooms, a charming courtyard, and is close to the lake. The hotel's blend of history and accessibility makes it a great choice for exploring the Mondsee region.
The first written record of the castle dates back to the 14th century. It belonged to various Austrian noble families through the centuries, until the Cistercian Abbey of Wilhering took possession of it in the 18th century until 1980. Opposite the castle are 16th century farm buildings with a chapel. Today, the rooms and suites are designed with tradition in mind. Walls are left with their original aesthetic and are minimally renovated.
It was initially built around 1596 in the town of Gmunden. The town is famously known for its fine ceramics. In 1719, that property was sold to Count Josef Ehrenreich of Seeau and sold again to Franz Xaver Gangl in 1770. It was turned into a castle with a beautiful view of the lake in 1968 and remains as such until today.
