Lews Castle is a wonderful Victorian era building that was first constructed in the 19th century. During WWII, the castle was used by the army forces, while after the war it was used as accommodation facilities for students of the Lews Castle College. The castle was abandoned for many years after the closing of the accommodation, until it was acquired by the local council that turned it into a museum, cultural centre and cafe, while in recent years some of its top rooms are being rented to guests.
