Bankton Rooms & Lodges emerges as a serene retreat nestled in a tranquil semi-rural environment, providing guests with a peaceful escape while maintaining convenient access to urban amenities. Its picturesque setting, just a short walk from the train station, offers easy access to Edinburgh, Livingston, and nearby shops, making it an ideal choice for those who appreciate both convenience and tranquility. The charming garden, often visited by squirrels, adds to the relaxing atmosphere.
The hotel is well-regarded for its dining options, with The Bistro delivering a delightful culinary experience. Guests rave about the excellent dinner menu, particularly the traditional Scottish haggis, all enjoyed in a picturesque conservatory setting. A lively bar complements the dining experience, although the earlier closing time for meals may catch some off guard. Despite this, the culinary offerings remain a significant highlight of the stay.
Rooms at Bankton Rooms & Lodges are praised for their cleanliness, comfort, and stylish decor. Guests enjoy the romantic charm of the rooms and appreciate the comfortable beds and newly renovated bathrooms. Although some accommodations have a more compact "chalet-style" layout, the overall warmth and welcoming atmosphere provide a cozy haven away from the bustling world.
The staff at Bankton Rooms & Lodges earn high marks for their friendliness and helpful nature, contributing to a pleasant and welcoming stay. While there are rare mentions of less-than-warm interactions, the general consensus is that the team is approachable, efficient, and committed to ensuring guest satisfaction.
Though breakfast options leave room for improvement, with limited availability and variety, the overall experience at Bankton Rooms & Lodges is one of tranquility, comfort, and exceptional service. The cleanliness and charm of the property, alongside its convenient location and inviting ambiance, make it a desirable destination for travelers seeking both relaxation and accessibility.

Located in Livingston, the Chain Runner by Marston's Inns offers a range of features that cater to guests with various needs, including those with disabilities. The hotel's accessibility highlights include spacious rooms suitable for families of four and convenient ground-floor accessible rooms, making them a practical choice for wheelchair users. For those with electric vehicles, the hotel provides EV charging stations on-site.
Guests appreciated the excellent facilities found in the wheelchair-accessible wet room, along with the spaciousness of the bedrooms, which allowed ample maneuverability for a wheelchair. Additionally, the proximity of accessible parking to the rooms ensures ease of access.
However, there are some limitations to be mindful of. Notably, the hotel lacks a lift to upper floors and the accessible rooms are primarily located in separate buildings that require walking outside, which may present challenges for some guests. There were also concerns about the slipperiness of the accessible en-suite toilet floors and difficulties experienced by disabled guests with the room key cards, which occasionally failed and required resetting at the pub, a task that could be challenging for those with limited mobility.
Despite these issues, the staff were consistently praised for their helpfulness and consideration, adding to the overall accessibility, cleanliness and hospitality at the Chain Runner. Nearby outlets and great parking facilities add to its convenience, making it a viable option for guests requiring accessibility features.
