Maes Manor Country Hotel, located just outside Blackwood, is set in a picturesque and serene environment that guests find stunning. The hotel's beautifully maintained grounds and historic charm provide an idyllic retreat, complemented by its convenient access to local facilities and ample parking.
The breakfast experience is frequently praised for its high-quality, hearty Welsh options that are both tasty and well-presented. However, there is some room for improvement in terms of variety and consistency. Dinner receives generally positive feedback with guests appreciating the flavorful and reasonably priced dishes, though a few found certain meals less satisfying.
Rooms at the hotel are usually described as clean and spacious, offering a comfortable stay. Guests particularly enjoy the quiet and stunning views. Nevertheless, many rooms are in need of renovation with complaints about dated decor, minor maintenance issues and occasional cleanliness concerns. Upgrading the bedding would also enhance guest comfort, as some found the mattresses and pillows lacking.
Cleanliness is a mixed bag; while some guests praise the housekeeping, others have noted issues such as cobwebs, mould in bathrooms and generally outdated furnishings. Effective maintenance and thorough cleaning could significantly improve the guest experience.
Staff at Maes Manor are frequently commended for their friendliness, professionalism and helpfulness, contributing to a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The reception and night staff, in particular, receive high praise for their excellent service.
In conclusion, Maes Manor Country Hotel offers a charming and tranquil setting with standout service and enjoyable cuisine, though improvements in room updates and cleanliness would enhance the overall guest experience.

Bryn Meadows Golf, Hotel & Spa is a beautiful resort nestled in Welsh valleys and providing a peaceful atmosphere for guests to relax and unwind. The location of the resort is fantastic, offering guests amazing panoramic views of the surrounding countryside from their rooms. The staff of the hotel is exceptional and goes above and beyond in providing warm and friendly service. Guests have enjoyed delicious dinners and great selections in the restaurant, although breakfast has been hit or miss with issues such as messy setup, cold food and poor service. The rooms are spacious and clean, although some need refurbishment and the beds are super comfortable. The resort's leisure facilities, including the pool and spa, have received high praise from guests. While there have been some minor issues with cleanliness, inconsistent pool hours and staff rudeness, these have not affected the overall quality of the stay. Overall, Bryn Meadows Golf, Hotel & Spa provides guests with a great experience in a beautiful location with excellent service and comfortable accommodations.
