The Captain fell in love with the Lord's daughter, but since her father did not approve of it, the Captain was order to stay away and the daughter was locked in the castle tower. Unable to forget her love for the Captain, the daughter refused to eat or exit the tower, and she ended up meeting a tragic death due to her broken heart. Visitors have witnessed a figure said to resemble to the poor daughter, who sighs and still waits by the Lake for her Captain to return.

Mansfield Castle was initially built in the 18th century and has undergone a rather turbulent history since then, constantly being sold and changing owners. One of its longer lasting owners was the Fowler family, who purchased the castle in 1890 until a little before WWII. Mr Fowler died in 1930 and Mrs Fowler died in 1938, continuing to live in the castle until her final breath. It is said that her ghost still lingers in the castle's halls and chambers, showing her concern about the property and its state even after her death.
