One of its longer lasting owners was the Fowler family, who purchased the castle in 1890 until a little before WWII. Mr Fowler died in 1930 and Mrs Fowler died in 1938, continuing to live in the castle until her final breath. It is said that her ghost still lingers in the castle's halls and chambers, showing her concern about the property and its state even after her death.
