Ai Vecchi Tempi enjoys a strategic location, particularly advantageous for travelers using Ciampino Airport, just a short drive away. Guests appreciate the convenient access by car and ample parking, making it an excellent base for exploring the Castelli Romani region and surrounding cities. The tranquil and picturesque setting between mountains and the sea adds to its charm, though its seclusion from Rome's bustling center and public transportation is noted.
Despite the lackluster breakfast, which many found disappointing due to its limited variety and late service, the hotel excels in dinner offerings. The restaurant receives high praise for its traditional local cuisine, generous portions and standout dishes like Gricia and fettuccine with porcini mushrooms. The friendly and accommodating restaurant staff further enhance the dining experience, earning the establishment a strong reputation for excellent food.
Room experiences are mixed with guests noting that while some rooms are spacious and clean with fresh bedding and towels provided daily, others are small, sparsely furnished and suffer from outdated amenities. Issues such as uncomfortable mattresses and occasional maintenance problems, like broken furniture and limited electrical outlets, are highlighted. Cleanliness receives mixed reviews as well with some guests finding their rooms immaculate, while others report issues with dust, mold and less-than-spotless hallways.
The staff at Ai Vecchi Tempi are a notable highlight, often commended for their kindness and friendliness. The welcoming nature of the owners and staff creates a warm atmosphere, despite occasional communication hurdles due to limited English proficiency. Some isolated instances of less welcoming behavior are mentioned but are generally overshadowed by the overall positive interactions with the team.
Overall, Ai Vecchi Tempi is appreciated for its convenient location, excellent dining and friendly staff, though there is room for improvement in breakfast offerings, room maintenance and cleanliness consistency.
