Located just minutes outside Edinburgh, Dalhousie Castle was built in the 13th century and belonged to the Ramsay clan for centuries. After a rather turbulent past and many renovations, the castle was turned into the award-winning hotel that it is today, providing guests with excellent service and a magical atmosphere that will make them feel like they have travelled through time.
The very first written records of Melville Castle date as far back as the 12th century, when it was used as the personal estate of the Governor of Edinburgh Castle. During the 16th century, Mary Stuart, also known as Queen of Scots, was a frequent visitor to the Melville Castle when she returned to Scotland after becoming a widow in France. In the 19th century, Queen Victoria was also a guest in Melville Castle, an estate which mesmerised her. The famous writer Sir Walter Scott was also inspired by the majestic estate to write a story. After the death of its then owners, the castle fell into disarray until the 1990s when it was restored to its former glory and opened as a hotel.
