The hotel has a lot of character and is a perfect blend of old English charm and modern amenities. The tasteful conversion of the old building with its gorgeous timber beams is admirable and the lovely thick carpets make it a joy to walk around. It's a quirky hotel with lots of stairs, interesting design and a historic atmosphere. Despite being very old, it is well-maintained and the way that the historical features of the building had been blended with the modern facilities is impressive. The intimacy of being a family run business added to the charm of the place. It is an excellent location, a short walk to the center of Bury St Edmunds and its various historic attractions and good choice of restaurants. The hotel is a hidden gem, oozing with so much character at an affordable price.
