The Hampton Inn & Suites Newark-Harrison-Riverwalk offers a highly praised and convenient location, especially favored for events at the Prudential Center and its close proximity to transportation hubs like Newark Penn Station and the Harrison Path station. Its proximity to Newark Airport and local attractions such as the Red Bull Arena, alongside a quiet, safe neighborhood and picturesque riverside placement, make it an ideal base for exploring Newark and New York City.
The complimentary breakfast receives mixed reviews. While many guests enjoyed delicious hot options and a good variety on weekends, others noted limited healthier choices and issues with replenishment and operational efficiency.
The rooms are often described as spacious, comfortable and well-equipped with modern decor and cleanliness receiving positive feedback. Cleanliness in individual rooms is highly praised, but common areas like hallways and elevators often fall short in maintenance. Guests appreciated the comfort of the beds and the quiet atmosphere despite some reports of inconsistent amenities and maintenance problems.
The staff experience ranges widely with some specific members like Ivy and Mr. Armstrong receiving high praise for their friendly and helpful service, while others reported encounters with unprofessional and indifferent staff members.
Wi-Fi service at the hotel is another point of contention. While some guests enjoyed fast and reliable internet, many reported inconsistent and weak signals, impacting their connectivity.
The gym is generally adequate for basic fitness needs when operational, although there have been instances of unavailability due to maintenance. Parking, however, presents significant challenges due to limited spaces and additional fees, leading to inconvenience for guests despite it being somewhat reasonable compared to other hotels.
For families, the hotel is considered pleasant and accommodating with enjoyable amenities like the pool and family suites. However, there have been occasional issues with room setups and minor inconveniences.
In terms of bedding, reviews are mixed. Many enjoyed big, comfortable and clean beds, but others faced issues with bed quality and cleanliness, affecting their sleep experience.
As a three-star hotel, it meets minimal expectations with a range of basic amenities, convenient location and generally large, comfortable rooms. It serves its purpose well for short-term stays, though there are some areas for improvement, especially in aligning with higher expectations. Business travelers generally find it a good fit due to its business-friendly environment, convenient location and supportive services, though it lacks a dedicated business center.
In summary, the Hampton Inn & Suites Newark-Harrison-Riverwalk provides a comfortable and convenient lodging experience with notable strengths in location and spacious accommodations, though improvements are needed in areas like breakfast variety, common area upkeep, staff consistency, Wi-Fi reliability and parking facilities.
