Tarrytown House Estate provides guests with a serene and historically rich experience, prominently situated with stunning views over the Hudson River. The estate spans 26 acres of rolling hills, scenic gardens and historic architecture, making it an ideal destination for weddings, explorations and a peaceful retreat. The property’s proximity to Tarrytown's Main Street, Sleepy Hollow and easy access to New York City via the train offers a perfect base for exploring local attractions despite the slight inconvenience of needing a car for some activities.
The breakfast experience at the estate is well-regarded for the quality and taste of the food, particularly the buffet offerings featuring fresh fruits, made-to-order omelets and waffles. The dining ambiance, often set in the historic Biddle Mansion, enhances the breakfast appeal. While some guests felt the cost was high and variety lacking, the attentive service contributed positively to the morning meal experience.
Dining at the estate's Goosefeather restaurant is highlighted for its exceptional modern Cantonese cuisine and lively atmosphere. However, the limited menu and high prices might not cater to everyone, especially those not inclined towards Asian cuisine. The other dining option, Cellar 49, faced closures, which led some guests to seek alternatives off-property. Despite logistical issues, overall dining experiences on the estate were praised for their quality and convenience.
The rooms at Tarrytown House Estate, while clean and comfortable, have mixed reviews due to their aged decor and occasional maintenance issues such as faulty HVAC systems and thin walls. Despite these drawbacks, many guests enjoyed the cozy ambiance, cleanliness and historic charm that the rooms provide.
Cleanliness of the estate grounds is frequently commended, presenting a beautiful and well-maintained landscape. However, room cleanliness has inconsistencies with some guests citing dirty carpets, unclean bathrooms and signs of neglect, indicating the need for more consistent upkeep.
The staff generally receive high praise for their friendliness and efficiency, enhancing the overall guest experience. Specific personnel like Francisco and Carlos are often singled out for their exceptional hospitality. Despite a few reports of unfriendly encounters or overwhelmed service, the majority of interactions with the staff were positive.
WiFi service at the estate is reliable in some areas but spotty in others with the staff addressing issues promptly when they arise. The gym is well-equipped and receives high marks for its modern facilities and cleanliness, despite occasional closures of additional amenities like the sauna and indoor pool.
Free on-site parking is a significant convenience, although its layout poses challenges with parking spots often being far from the rooms, requiring lengthy walks with luggage.
Overall, Tarrytown House Estate is a tranquil and picturesque escape, blending historic charm with modern comforts, though it could benefit from some updates and more consistent service to enhance the overall guest experience.
