Hotel l'Albera is well-regarded for its prime location, situated in a peaceful yet accessible area. Its proximity to the border, highway and major shops like the Grand Jonquera and the city center makes it an ideal choice for travelers. Guests also appreciate its closeness to outdoor activities and the tranquil environment, which offers a distant view of the Pyrenees mountains. The ease of finding the hotel and the plentiful parking add to its appeal, making it a family-friendly and welcoming destination.
Breakfast at the hotel, however, is a common point of disappointment. Many guests express dissatisfaction with the lack of variety and quality, often noting a repetitive menu of croissants and coffee that falls short, particularly for international visitors. Issues with availability and additional charges further mar the breakfast experience.
Dinner, on the other hand, earns high praise. Guests frequently commend the delicious, hearty meals, which feature affordable and satisfying Portuguese cuisine. Both à la carte and set menu options cater to different preferences and even late arrivals are accommodated with excellent dinners.
Rooms at Hotel l'Albera draw significant criticism. Guests often describe them as very small and poorly maintained with outdated bathrooms and unpleasant odors. Cleanliness is inconsistent with reports of cobwebs, dirty air conditioning units and pervasive noise due to poor soundproofing. Many reviews call for a renovation and better upkeep of the rooms to meet hospitality standards.
Cleanliness across the hotel is a major concern. Multiple reviews highlight issues such as cigarette butts, cobwebs, moldy bathrooms and pests. Structural and functional problems, along with a general lack of maintenance, contribute to an overall feeling of disrepair and uncleanliness. Despite some positive notes on clean bed linen and bathrooms, the consensus calls for substantial improvements.
The staff at Hotel l'Albera receive consistent praise for their friendliness and efficiency. Guests appreciate the warm, welcoming atmosphere created by the team's attentive service, particularly noting the smooth check-in process and the helpfulness of the reception. The owners and managers are often commended for enhancing the overall stay with their hospitable demeanor.
Parking facilities at the hotel are commendable. Guests find the secure, well-lit parking lot behind the hotel convenient and reliably available, although it may not be ideal for large vans. The free parking and easy access contribute to the positive experience.
The beds receive mixed reviews. While some guests find the beds reasonably good or even very good, others report issues with hard, uncomfortable mattresses and cleanliness concerns, such as stained or torn sheets. Despite these issues, the friendly service from the staff adds a positive touch to the overall stay.
