Summary of reviews
Summarized by AI
Howard Johnson by Wyndham Columbus State Fairgrounds I-71 offers a mixed experience for its guests, punctuated by both positive aspects and significant areas needing improvement. Conveniently located off Interstate 71, the hotel provides easy access to attractions such as concert venues, event centers and the zoo. Despite some concerns about the safety and general atmosphere of the nearby neighborhood, the hotel's proximity to major roads, gas stations, restaurants and shopping centers is a notable benefit.
While the hotel delivers on amenities like free wifi and ample parking, these features often come with caveats. The wifi, although complimentary, is frequently reported as slow and unreliable and parking, though plentiful, has raised safety concerns due to its condition and surrounding activities.
The comfort of the beds is one of the few uniformly praised features with many guests highlighting their softness and comfort. Additionally, some guests had positive interactions with the hotel staff, describing them as friendly, helpful and accommodating. Instances of staff members being polite, professional and eager to assist enhanced the experience for several visitors.
However, the hotel struggles with significant issues in other areas. Cleanliness and maintenance are recurring points of contention with numerous reports of dirty rooms, broken furniture and malfunctioning fixtures. This extends to the hotel's amenities, such as the pool and gym, which are often closed or in poor condition. The breakfast offerings also fall short of expectations, frequently described as limited or non-existent, leading to guest dissatisfaction.
Despite having rooms equipped with hot tubs or jacuzzis, many guests encountered problems with cleanliness and functionality. While the in-room jacuzzis are appreciated, consistent maintenance is necessary. Similarly, the hotel is generally not noted for being family-friendly or catering adequately to business travelers, further narrowing its appeal.
Overall, Howard Johnson by Wyndham Columbus State Fairgrounds I-71 stands out for its convenient location and comfortable beds, yet it struggles with maintaining cleanliness, functional amenities and a consistent quality of service. Improvements in these areas could significantly enhance the overall guest experience.
