La Vieille Auberge, nestled in the heart of Mont Saint Michel, is renowned for its exceptional location, offering breathtaking views and convenient access to the historic abbey and other attractions within the citadel. Guests cherish the unique experience of staying overnight on the island, especially enjoying the serene evenings once daytime tourists have left. The helpful and attentive staff further enhance the enchantment of this beautifully situated hotel.
The breakfast experience at La Vieille Auberge has its highlights with many describing it as delicious and hearty, featuring a generous all-you-can-eat buffet of high quality. The friendly ambiance and cooperative staff add to the positive feedback, although some guests find the cost of around 17-20 euros per person to be disproportionately high. Despite the high prices and logistical challenges of serving breakfast at a different location, the general consensus is that the breakfast is satisfactory, though some may choose to weigh the cost against its convenience.
Dining at La Vieille Auberge garners praise for its scenic location and overall food quality, especially notable dishes such as fried mussels and entrecote. The restaurant ambiance, enriched by stunning views and terrace dining, adds a delightful touch. However, guests should anticipate higher costs akin to big-city dining and plan ahead due to early closures of nearly all dining establishments by 6 pm. While the food is generally enjoyed, occasional service issues and unexpected closures can be a drawback.
Room experiences at La Vieille Auberge are varied but largely positive with many guests appreciating the lovely views, modern bathrooms and comfortable beds. Cleanliness is typically praised, though some noted issues with older, stained carpets and outdated furnishings detracting from the overall experience. Guests find the rooms functional and cozy with recent renovations enhancing certain areas. Generally, guests enjoy the historic charm and practicality of the accommodations despite occasional shortcomings.
Cleanliness is another aspect receiving mixed reviews. Many guests commend the clean, spacious and well-equipped rooms with clean bathrooms being a common highlight. However, several reviews point out areas needing improvement like mold in the shower grout and dirty carpets. While cleanliness is generally satisfactory, more consistent housekeeping could elevate guest experiences further.
The staff at La Vieille Auberge are often lauded for their friendliness, attentiveness and professionalism. The reception team receives special mentions for their warm welcomes and efficient problem-solving. While occasional stress among the staff has led to moments of unfriendliness or disorganization, the prevailing impression is of a welcoming team that greatly contributes to a pleasant stay.
One consistent area of critique is the free WiFi. Many guests describe it as unstable, unreliable and very slow with some finding the signal weak, especially on the mountain. Overall, it’s advised not to rely heavily on the WiFi for consistent connectivity.
The hotel caters well to families, offering spacious accommodations and a welcoming atmosphere, even extending kindness to pets. While there are calls for enhancing family facilities, the overall appeal for families exploring Mont Saint Michel is positive.
Lastly, the comfort of the beds at La Vieille Auberge receives significant praise with many guests enjoying the comfortable mattresses and bedding. Despite a few isolated issues with bed configurations, the prevailing sentiment is that the beds ensure a restful night's sleep.
In summary, La Vieille Auberge offers a memorable stay highlighted by its prime location, scenic views and cozy, comfortable beds. While some areas like breakfast cost, WiFi reliability and certain service aspects could see improvements, the overall experience remains positively marked by its enchanting setting and attentive staff.
