Located in Bayan Lepas, Olive Tree Hotel Penang benefits from a prime location, making it highly convenient for both business travelers and tourists. Its proximity to the airport and the Setia Convention Center, along with easy access to a wide range of restaurants, food stalls and shops, is particularly appreciated by guests. The locality offers diverse food options including halal and mamak stalls. Additionally, the area’s excellent transportation links to both the mainland and other parts of Penang Island enhance its appeal.
Guests consistently praise the hotel's rooms for being clean, spacious and comfortable. Modern amenities such as irons, fridges, safes and good water pressure in the bathrooms add to the positive experience. The hotel's design and ambiance contribute to a welcoming environment with many rooms offering beautiful views, especially of the SPICE Arena. Despite occasional issues with soundproofing, temperature control and room cleanliness, the general feedback remains favorable. The high standards of cleanliness extend beyond the rooms to the entire hotel, which is well-maintained and tidy.
The staff at Olive Tree Hotel Penang receive commendation for their friendliness, professionalism and willingness to assist guests. Instances of staff going above and beyond to resolve issues and manage requests contribute to a positive atmosphere. While there are a few reports of unfriendliness at the reception, overall, the staff’s hospitality is a standout feature.
The breakfast experience garners mixed reviews. While some guests find it delicious, others feel there is room for improvement in variety and taste. The change from buffet-style breakfast to in-room service has also elicited various responses. Nevertheless, some guests still acknowledge the good quality of food and their pleasant breakfast experiences.
The hotel’s WiFi is generally reliable and strong with good coverage throughout the premises. Specific praise for the complimentary nature of the WiFi is common, although there are occasional mentions of instability and varying performance. Nonetheless, the prompt resolution of any WiFi issues is appreciated.
The outdoor swimming pool is another highlight, noted for its cleanliness and refreshing water. Guests appreciate that the pool is often uncrowded, providing a peaceful environment. However, closures for maintenance have been a point of inconvenience for some visitors and the lack of a separate area for children is noted.
Parking at the hotel is a mix of pros and cons. The availability of free parking and the secure nature of the parking area are positive aspects. However, limited spaces, narrow lanes and the need for ticket validation can present challenges.
For families, the hotel provides a safe and quiet environment with appreciated amenities such as the swimming pool. Its location near the airport is convenient for travel. Despite some minor issues with lift performance, the overall family experience is positive with a comfortable and scenic setting.
Lastly, the beds receive mixed feedback with contrasting comments about comfort levels. Many guests find them comfortable, contributing to a restful stay, while others mention hard mattresses and uncomfortable pillows. Cleanliness issues with bed sheets and reports of allergic reactions are also concerns for a few guests. Nonetheless, there is agreement that the sleeping arrangements have room for improvement.
