Summary of reviews
Summarized by AI
Château De La Motte Fenelon is lauded for its beautiful and tranquil location, nestled in a magnificent park just outside of Cambrai. The serene, historic setting and charming, atmospheric estate with lovely, period-decorated rooms welcome guests seeking a blend of elegance and historical charm. The picturesque grounds invite relaxation and offer convenient access to Cambrai's center while maintaining a peaceful distance from urban hustle and bustle.
The breakfast experience generally receives positive feedback, described as generous and a good value for money. Many guests appreciate the plentiful offerings including fresh fruit, good croissants and cereals in a beautifully decorated dining room overlooking the castle park. While some areas for improvement are noted—such as freshness of pastries and variety—the majority of guests express satisfaction with the breakfast, particularly enjoying the setting and friendly, professional staff.
The in-house dining options, especially Restaurant 109, stand out with consistently excellent reviews for their refined French cuisine, cozy ambiance in an old wine cellar and great value for money. Patrons frequently highlight the delicious meals and specialties like Crepe Suzette, paired with attentive service, making the restaurant a highly recommended choice. While some note occasional mismatched quality relative to high prices, the overall fine dining experience leaves guests eager to return.
Rooms at the château are praised for their spaciousness, cleanliness and historical decor. Visitors enjoy the beautifully decorated and comfortable rooms with highlights including period furniture and very comfortable beds. Although some rooms, particularly in the Orangerie, are observed to be smaller and more modern, they are still appreciated for their comfort and cleanliness. A few remarks about outdated furnishings and occasional musty odors do little to mar the overall satisfaction.
Guests find the cleanliness of the rooms satisfactory with regular daily service and clean linens enhancing the experience. Some minor issues with broader cleanliness beyond the rooms are mentioned but do not significantly detract from the overall positive sentiment. The combination of clean, comfortable rooms and the château's historic charm forms a compelling lodging package.
The staff at Château De La Motte Fenelon receive high praise for their friendliness, warmth and professionalism. Attentive and accommodating service across reception and restaurant areas contribute significantly to guest satisfaction. Despite minor communication hiccups regarding bookings, the dedicated staff ensure a pleasant stay.
Parking facilities are a notable advantage with guests highlighting the convenient, ample free parking, secure gated entrances and covered parking options. There is a mention of occasional challenges during events such as weddings, but overall, the parking situation is well-regarded.
WiFi services receive mixed feedback with good connectivity in some areas but inconsistent and challenging access in individual rooms. This may be a consideration for those needing reliable internet during their stay.
Guests frequently comment on the comfortable beds with a general consensus towards positive experiences despite some varying preferences in firmness and bed size. Additionally, the three-star standard garners mixed reviews regarding the condition of facilities and services with some guests feeling that renovation is needed and that certain aspects do not meet their expectations.
Finally, the historical charm of Château De La Motte Fenelon is a significant draw, offering a unique experience steeped in history and grandeur. The enchanting atmosphere, richly decorated interiors and ample space for activities contribute to a serene retreat. Guests appreciate the opportunity to immerse themselves in a piece of history amidst the château's captivating, story-filled walls, enjoying a beautifully preserved testament to a bygone era.
