John D’Arcy of Clifden Castle built Abbeyglen Castle in 1832, nestled in the romantic setting of the Twelve Bens overlooking Clifden Bay. It was later used as a Protestant orphanage for the Irish Church Mission Society in 1854. Apart from being surrounded by stunning landscapes and evoking an atmosphere of chivalry and romance by an era long gone, this castle hotel offers award-winning cuisines as well a wellness centre where all guests can relax and rejuvenate.

The Hughes family took the castle over in 1969 and have developed it into one of Connemara's most prestigious resorts.

Located in the idyllic Ardbear Bay, Ardagh Hotel & Restaurant is a small and cosy boutique hotel where guests can enjoy everything the area has to offer. For a fee of €15-20 per booking, guests are welcome to bring their four-legged companions along, as long as their weight does not exceed 25kg.
