Summary of reviews
Summarized by AI
La Quinta Inn by Wyndham Detroit Southgate is often praised for its strategic and convenient location. Close to Detroit Metropolitan Airport and major highways like I-75, it offers quick access to downtown Detroit, the Detroit River, shops, restaurants and supermarkets. This makes it an excellent base for both business and leisure travelers, particularly those with tight travel schedules or visiting family. The serene and quiet environment adds to its attractiveness, despite some guests noting that other nearby hotels might offer superior accommodations.
Guests have varied opinions about the breakfast service, appreciating the continental offerings like waffles and fresh coffee. However, some found the options limited and plain, especially when the service was impacted by COVID-19 restrictions. The breakfast area was well-equipped and the staff’s friendly service was often highlighted.
The rooms at La Quinta Inn provide essential amenities, including mini-fridges, microwaves and coffee pots with some guests noting that they were clean and comfortable. The helpful and friendly staff significantly enhances the guest experience, often accommodating requests like room changes. However, many reviews point to outdated furnishings, unpleasant odors and cleanliness issues such as stained carpets and mold in bathrooms. Despite these drawbacks, some guests felt that the hotel offered reasonable value for the price.
The hotel's cleanliness is frequently criticized. Common complaints include dirty, stained carpets and inconsistent housekeeping. Reports of built-up dirt, remnants from previous guests and unpleasant odors are common in both rooms and public areas. Some guests did note improvements upon subsequent visits but suggest significant updates and better housekeeping are needed.
Notably, the staff at La Quinta Inn is commendable, often described as friendly, helpful and professional. Positive interactions with front desk personnel and management contribute to guest satisfaction, making stays more enjoyable.
Opinions about the beds are mixed; many guests found them clean and comfortable, particularly those with back issues. However, others reported that the beds were too small, worn out or uncomfortable with issues like flat pillows and sunken mattresses.
Overall, La Quinta Inn by Wyndham Detroit Southgate serves as an affordable and convenient lodging option, especially for those seeking proximity to the airport and Detroit's attractions. While it meets essential needs without frills and is complemented by a friendly staff, the hotel falls short in cleanliness and modernity, positioning it as a practical choice for short, budget-conscious stays rather than extended visits or special occasions.
