Hotel Castel receives substantial praise in various aspects, making it a favorable option for travelers visiting Ghent. The hotel’s exceptional location is one of its strongest features, conveniently situated opposite the Gent-Sint-Pieters train station. Guests appreciate the strategic positioning, which offers easy access to public transportation, supermarkets and numerous restaurants. Though it’s a bit far from Ghent’s city center, the surrounding transport options efficiently bridge this gap.
Breakfast at Hotel Castel generally garners positive feedback for its variety and quality. The ample, well-cared-for continental breakfast includes items like salami, cheese, bread, pastries and fruits with fresh fruit and omelets on request being particular highlights. While a few guests found the breakfast basic or overpriced, the overall sentiment is positive.
The in-house dining experience is highly praised, especially for its authentic Nepalese and Indian cuisine served at the on-site restaurant. Guests commend the delicious flavors and the accommodating nature of the restaurant staff, even near closing time. The bar’s good selection of Belgian beers adds to the dining experience similarly well-regarded by spice lovers and those enjoying complimentary gestures from the hospitable owner.
Hotel Castel’s rooms receive consistent approval for being spacious, clean and well-equipped with essentials like coffee, tea and small refrigerators. Family rooms are notably large and non-street-facing rooms offer a peaceful stay despite the central location. Although some reviews point out areas for improvement such as outdated bathrooms or occasional strange odors, the general cleanliness and comfort of the rooms remain a standout feature.
Cleanliness throughout the hotel is frequently highlighted with many guests noting the thorough and punctual housekeeping. The pristine condition of the rooms and bathrooms contributes to a positive overall impression, even though some minor cleanliness issues were occasionally mentioned.
The staff at Hotel Castel receive widespread acclaim for their friendliness and helpfulness with both staff and owners frequently noted for their welcoming and attentive nature. Multilingual abilities, particularly in English, added to the favorable experiences of many guests, though a few less enthusiastic interactions were noted.
The free Wi-Fi at Hotel Castel has mixed reviews. Many guests experience reliable and fast connections, while others report issues with unstable or slow reception, particularly on the top floors.
Hotel Castel shines in offering spacious and clean family accommodations, especially in their large family rooms that can comfortably host up to five people. However, families with very young children may find the non-stroller-friendly setup a drawback. Despite some inconveniences noted on the fourth-floor rooms, the large, clean family rooms are often highlighted positively.
Beds at Hotel Castel are regularly described as comfortable with good pillows contributing to a restful night’s sleep. While a few guests noted the need for mattress updates, the overall impression is that the beds provide satisfactory comfort.
Overall, Hotel Castel stands out for its prime location, friendly staff, spacious and clean rooms and commendable dining experiences, making it a well-regarded choice for travelers to Ghent.
