Summary of reviews
Summarized by AI
Giljanes Hostel in the Faroe Islands is an excellent choice for travelers eager to explore Vágar Island and its attractions. With a prime location near Vágar Airport and just steps away from a bus stop, it allows easy access to scenic hiking trails and stunning sea views. Guests appreciate its proximity to affordable supermarkets and various points of interest, including the renowned lake above the ocean hike. The hostel's cozy environment and practical amenities offer great value for money, making it an ideal base for nature lovers and adventurers.
Accommodation at Giljanes Hostel is clean with comfortable beds and basic yet efficient rooms. Despite their small size, the rooms are well-maintained, featuring clean linens and occasional sea views. While some guests noted minor issues such as dampness and a moldy smell, ongoing renovations and a very friendly owner enhance the overall experience.
Cleanliness at the hostel receives mixed feedback. Although many guests praise the spotless rooms, comfortable linens and the well-equipped kitchen, concerns about the sanitary facilities were prevalent. Bathrooms and showers were often described as outdated and in need of better maintenance. The kitchen also faced criticism for being cluttered and sometimes unhygienic. Despite these challenges, the hostel manages to maintain a decent level of cleanliness in many areas.
The standout feature of Giljanes Hostel is its exceptional staff. Renata, Kristjan and owner Christian are frequently lauded for their friendliness, warmth and attentiveness. Their dedication to service ensures that every guest feels welcomed and well cared for, significantly enhancing the overall experience.
While the free Wi-Fi at Giljanes Hostel is reliable and fast in communal areas, it tends to be weaker in private rooms. Nevertheless, it is generally considered sufficient for casual browsing, especially in social zones and even outdoors.
The beds at the hostel receive mixed reviews. Many guests find them cozy and comfortable, leading to a good night's sleep. Clean linens add to the positive experience. However, some travelers mention that the beds can be small, particularly bunk beds, which might be narrow and shaky. Thin and worn-out mattresses also detract from comfort for some guests.
In summary, Giljanes Hostel is a budget-friendly option offering a prime location, clean and comfortable rooms and outstanding staff. While it faces some challenges with its shared facilities and bed sizes, the overall experience is enhanced by its welcoming atmosphere, great views and excellent value for money.
