Is there anything that you would like to highlight, add or clarify? We are proud to have received the bronze medal from Trip Advisor for their Green Leaders initiative. The medal is given to those hotels who actively pursue to be greener and more sustainable.
• We built the Harmony hotel using sustainable materials such as dead wood harvested by Mayan communities, and rock that we took from our own land. • The perimeter fence is made of rammed earth, and even though some of our walls are made from construction block, we used a Mayan technique made from Sascab and sand to coat them. • All our beds and most of the furniture is made of recycled pallets. • We applied bio climatic principles when building and orienting the house in a way to get the most sea breeze and northern winds possible to keep the rooms cooler and reduce the use of AC. • All our waste water (grey and black water) is treated through a bio digester that allows us to reuse the water for underground irrigation of our ornamental plants. The grey water goes to a constructed wetland and is used for irrigation after treatment. • Additionally, we capture rainwater that is used in the garden. • We didn’t disturb or cut any mature tree in the building process. We also have many nitrogen fixing trees on site such as Salam, to help fertilize the soil naturally. • All our plants and garden are fertilized naturally using worm castings and compost made at the Green Beat farm. • When needed, we fumigate with natural pesticides that don’t harm plants or the eco system. • Our garden has only native local plants. • We only use natural and biodegradable soaps and shampoos in the Hotel. • We reduce, reuse, and recycle the most we can. We ask you kindly not to bring any plastic bags onto the property and to please use your towels more than once before sending them out to get washed.
