Initially built by some Cistercian monks in 1619, the monastery was not only a place of prayer and tranquility but also surrounded by fertile land and vines. In 1862, the monastery was purchased by a noble family of Incisa Counts and was turned into a private home, until, finally, it became the 5-star hotel it is today in 2002.

All interiors were renovated according to the castle's medieval architecture, with stones, timbers, and terracotta floors.

The castle has been artfully restored and equipped with the latest modern systems as well as all luxury amenities to create a welcoming atmosphere where everything works.

The hotel is an excellent base for exploring the top producers of Barbaresco and Barolo wines. All wineries are between 15 to 20 minutes from the hotel. You can book your private appointment that lasts 2 hours and includes cellar tour and sit down formal tasting of up to 8 wines.

Ideally situated on Lake Maggiore, the castle originally dates back to the 10th century, believed to have been a Roman castle. The castle was rebuilt again in the 12th century by the Visconti family, and it changed owners many times over the centuries. In between its owners, the castle spent many years being abandoned, and so it had to be reconstructed time and again. In the 19th century, it was rebuilt according to the neo-Gothic style and architecture, a design that the castle still retains until today.

This thousand-year-old castle, apart from centuries deep history, also carries a sad story of star-crossed lovers. As the story goes, in the 14th century, Lord Alberto and his family inhabited the castle. Preparing for a battle with a neighbouring state, a young Captain was sent in the area where the castle is located along with his troops. The Captain fell in love with the Lord's daughter, but since her father did not approve of it, the Captain was order to stay away and the daughter was locked in the castle tower. Unable to forget her love for the Captain, the daughter refused to eat or exit the tower, and she ended up meeting a tragic death due to her broken heart. Visitors have witnessed a figure said to resemble to the poor daughter, who sighs and still waits by the Lake for her Captain to return.
